If you want to know how dysfunctional things are at USC, look no further than its latest job search.
It just hired an interim equipment manager after an eight-month search that saw around 10 candidates turn it down because they either didn’t want to work for the people or didn’t get offered enough money.
Florida State took a week to hire an equipment manager. It’s not like hiring a rocket scientist and it’s just interim. But USC took eight months and then promoted Jeff Magdaleno, who I heard didn’t even interview during the initial search.
But USC doesn’t know what it’s doing in many areas and this is another example, even if equipment is not an area that generates much interest. It can’t even find a permanent equipment guy in eight months and needs an interim.
Alabama doesn’t mess around like this. Real schools don’t. But in a ship without a captain, even a simple job takes a long time.
I honestly don't know what Scott is so miffed about this time. What is it with this guy? This wasn't some pro forma search ---we're talking about the Job of Equipment Manager. Anyone who understands 21st century American sports knows this involves reaching out to intelligence services --not only within the United States but several difficult-to-deal-with eastern European countries as well. It's real easy to criticize a project of this scope....but let's see Scott try to orchestrate dealing with Albanian, Polish and Romanian secret police any faster.
USC conducts the model international search and what does it get? Scott poo-pooing the entire operation merely because USC ended up hiring one of it's own staffers.
