Even USC Super Fans Lose Patience

Everyone knows what I think of USC because I’m not afraid to say it.

But I hear even some ultra fan-friendly USC media types have been vocally criticizing the football program and Clay Helton. They just won’t do it in a public forum because they don’t want to risk losing access or alienating their audience.

“Clay Helton is a phony and I don’t like the way Mike Bohn has handled things,” one prominent USC media figure told a couple boosters last week.

“I get sick watching them practice,” another media figure told a major donor.

These are strong opinions but will never get outside a restaurant or phone conversation because no one wants to damage their image as a USC superfan/insider or not be in a good graces at USC.

• I’m hearing Arizona State is probably going to hire Andy Stankiewicz of Grand Canyon as its new baseball coach. Stankiewicz was the runner-up at USC two years ago when Jason Gill was hired.

• QB Nico Iamaleava of Warren High in Downey will visit USC this week. He was offered by Alabama earlier this week.
