With USC playing Kansas tonight, here’s my favorite story regarding the teams.

In 1980, USC went to Lawrence, Kan., went to play the Jayhawks. The Trojans lost, 91-68.

But the part I remember is USC forward Purvis Miller was found after the game trying to knock down cows in a pasture.

It was a funny story, but Miller, who was one of my favorite USC players growing up, had a tragic life.

Miller was named Southern Section 4-A player of the year in 1977 after leading Compton High to the section semifinals.

Also in 1980, Miller reportedly flashed a gun at several USC football players when they tried to intervene in an argument Miller was having with his girlfriend’s girlfriend.

Former USC coach Stan Morrison had police attend practice for several days after he dismissed Miller from the team.

Miller was shot and killed in 1992 in Arkansas.

I kinda wish you hadn't reminded us of that 1980 score, Scott....
