USC’s lost three wide receiver recruits in the past week, including Los Alamitos star Makai Lemon to Oklahoma on Saturday.
That was the same day USC wide receivers coach Keary Colbert was out of town to attend NFL Hall of Fame ceremonies for his former USC teammate, Troy Polamalu.
So Colbert missed practice and lost a wide receiver prospect Saturday. And Mater Dei wide receiver C.J. Williams committed to Notre Dame on Sunday. And Tobias Merriweather committed to Notre Dame a few days before that.
There’s nothing wrong with going to the Hall of Fame ceremonies, but when you lose three recruits, including two the weekend you are out of town, you invite scrutiny.
The way USC stockpiles wide receivers, maybe it doesn’t matter. But it’s a troubling trend at the moment and no one thinks Colbert a great recruiter to begin with.
Does any of this suggest there is a feeling of urgency within the program to turn things around or raise USC’s fortunes?
What does Clay Helton think of all this? Who knows?
Let's somehow get Pete back!
Not setting out to be snide or anything --- but we all know Helton has no idea what he thinks about this. He's trained himself to automatically shoot crazy talk at critics....and in today's L. A. ---that's enough. Hopefully the stories about Harrell & Orlando saying they wish Helton would disappear are true..... and they each go their own merry way with the support of Mike Bohn...
