Welcome to the Friday USC notes column supplement.
From 1964-69, USC had a Shaw in the defensive backfield.
Nate Shaw was an All-American defensive halfback who played from 1964-66. He was a consensus All-American in 1966. He was drafted by the L.A. Rams in the fifth round and played for two seasons. Shaw was also an assistant coach at USC from 1980-86. His nephew is Stanford coach David Shaw.
In the above photo, he makes a tackle vs. Texas in 1966.
Shaw came to USC from San Diego Junior College and Lincoln High School.
Safety Gerry Shaw played at USC from 1967-69. In the above photo, Shaw picks off a pass in the 1969 USC-UCLA game. USC intercepted five passes in the game.
Before USC, Shaw played at Claremont High School.
Scott, isn’t Claremont High the basis for Cameron Crowe’s “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”? “Assassinate Lincoln!”
I really enjoy reading and learning the USC players from the past. Keep up the good work.
